I’m glad you pointed that out.

A quick Amazon search of “WiFi extender” revealed hundreds of 5-star reviews for a particular $18.89 device.

Looks cool, but I’d like something in between $140 and aluminum can.

This is Cool Tools, not Boing Boing.  But yeah, seems a bit steep without an explanation of why one should pay more.

Fantastic idea, but the price is ridiculous. A quick google search reveals similar devices for $40-$50.

Also, you’ve got the comments set to Disqus instead of Discourse again.

If you bike into the office or work out after work, taking two showers isn’t really all that unusual.

seriously… for all the save-the-world environmentalism that goes on on this site, you’d think that someone wasting that much water per day would draw some ire.

Because apple doesn’t sell OS it sells hardware, the OS is a compliment to the hardware.

On the other hand Microsoft sells OS that is their primary product. They make deals with other companies and promote their hardware if they put their OS in their hardware. That hardware, to Microsoft, is a compliment.

Here is a good read from Joel Spolsky on the subject

Develop what I want, and where I want on whatever machine I want. Change what I want to be changed and don’t be dependent on a company that decided that my half a year old phone is deprecated and will not get updates anymore.

It’s strange – no matter how many showers he takes, he’s always covered towel lint…

Seems like we’re missing the real issue here.  Why on earth would you need to take so many showers?

After you turn off the shower, use your facecloth to pick up most of the water first.  Then use your towel.

I take at least two daily showers and have problems with cotton towels
getting damp, smelly, and yucky because they can’t dry quickly enough in
the hours between.

Have you tried using multiple towels and switching between them?

18000 mAh for $100 through the limeade kickstarter.  They shipped out to people already and they work awesome.  http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mylimeade/limeade-blast-18000mah-ultra-high-capacity-battery

This one is pretty awesome… 11200 mAh, on sale for $28 (I paid $33), and it has a digital readout of the battery.  Haven’t seen that anywhere else!  Oh and it has a built in flashlight and carrying case, yippee.  Though, that might be useful for keeping in the car..

Not going to get into Apple Maps vs Google, but there are plenty of Android phones with removable batteries and external chargers, so you can just pop a new battery in when you need to (I carry several when I travel), rather than hauling around a clumsy phone-and-charger nunchuk.

I use this 8000 mAh battery pack from Monoprice:

$28.50 ( and I go mine on sale for $12), it has both a 1A and a 2.2A USB charging port, both can be used at the same time, and it charges off of standard micro usb. About the same size as the Mophie, with 1/3 more capacity and a little bit more than 1/4 the price. You really can’t beat it.

If you don’t mind waiting a day or two from something to come from China:
http://www.chinavasion.com/china/wholesale/Cheap_Mobile_Phones/Cell_Phone_Accessories/High_Capacity_Power_Bank_Volta_-_11200mAh_2x_USB_Temperature_Display/I've got this one. It does 11.2 Ah, and has a 1A and 2A port. Plus, it’s only $25.

Another vote for Anker products, in general – they’re top quality products.  Check out the reviews on Amazon.  I have a Astro Pro Multivoltage (2x USB at 2A total) plus 9V or 12V.

If you’re looking for an iPhone-sized external battery and only need to charge USB devices, can I suggest the Anker 2nd Gen Astro3?  12000mAh with a 4A(!) output on three USB ports.  Half the price of the Mobie Juicepack and twice the capacity.

Or, if you insist on spending $100, how about the crazily huge Anker Astro Pro2.  20,000mAh  – yes, you can charge up your laptop.

Another vote for the Anker Astro.  5600mAh at less than half the price of the Morphie pack.  I’ve owned my Anker for 2 years now, and it’s still going strong.  Only 1 USB port, but just buy two battery packs if you require 2 USB ports.  ~12000mAh of power for less than $100!
